Delgaz Grid, a leading electricity distribution company in Romania, has launched modernization works at the IaÈ™i Sud transformer station, the largest station in the Delgaz Grid area, with investments exceeding $16.13 million (approximately 73.3 million lei), of which more than $12.47 million (around 56.7 million lei) is funded by the European Modernization Fund. This transformer station supplies consumers in the industrial area of IaÈ™i, as well as localities in the metropolitan area, and is expected to complete the works by the first half of 2027.

The Iași Sud transformer station is significant, as it serves nearly one-third of Iași's energy needs and connects to neighboring areas through four 110 kV lines. Cristian Secoșan, General Director of Delgaz Grid, emphasized that this project is crucial for enhancing energy security and improving distribution services for approximately 11,000 household and non-household consumers.

The modernization will involve replacing much of the existing equipment with state-of-the-art technology, including three high-power transformers, 18 circuit breakers, and 102 high-voltage current/voltage transformers. Additionally, photovoltaic panels will be installed on the station buildings to generate approximately 80 MWh of energy annually, further supporting sustainability efforts.

Delgaz Grid currently has various investment projects underway in its electricity distribution network, totaling $396 million (approximately 1.8 billion lei), with $308 million (around 1.4 billion lei) co-financed through the Modernization Fund.
