Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Inc. (MEPPI) has broken ground on an $86 million advanced manufacturing facility in New Galilee, Pennsylvania. The plant will focus on producing vacuum circuit breakers, a more sustainable alternative to gas-insulated switchgear systems, supporting grid modernization and industrial decarbonization efforts.

The investment is expected to create over 200 new jobs while retaining more than 800 existing positions. Pennsylvania's government has contributed $6.75 million in public funding, including $4 million from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) and $2.75 million via a Pennsylvania First grant.

Governor Josh Shapiro's administration has prioritized economic growth, and MEPPI's expansion is seen as a strategic win for the state. Stefani Pashman, CEO of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, emphasized the importance of retaining and growing key industry players in the region.

This development aligns with broader clean energy investments across the Pittsburgh metro area, including Mainspring Energy's $87 million clean-tech facility, JM Steel and Nextracker's solar power component expansion, and Westinghouse's nuclear microreactor advancements.

The expansion strengthens Pennsylvania's position as a leader in energy manufacturing and infrastructure innovation, reinforcing confidence in the state's business environment and workforce.
