Mexico’s CFE Strengthens National Transmission Infrastructure
Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has executed six critical actions to bolster the reliability of Mexico's National Transmission Grid (RNT). The initiative, led by CFE's Transmission Division, is part of a broader modernization effort to reduce outages and improve system resilience.
Key measures include the replacement of lightning arresters and power circuit breakers, which are essential to protecting grid infrastructure from electrical surges and enabling safe disconnections. CFE is also upgrading instrument transformers to enhance monitoring accuracy and fault protection.
Additional steps involve electrical testing of primary equipment, thermal imaging inspections of power transformers, and maintenance of 125V and 48V battery banks -- all aimed at early fault detection and system continuity.
These upgrades are crucial as the complexity and demand of the national grid continue to grow. According to CFE, reinforcing transmission infrastructure is vital to ensuring reliable and secure power delivery across the country.
The improvements align with CFE's broader energy security and grid modernization strategy, highlighting the company's role in sustaining the national electric system.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is Mexico's state-owned electricity provider, delivering essential power services nationwide. With operational and managerial autonomy, CFE focuses on expanding and modernizing the national electric system, promoting sustainability, and ensuring reliable, affordable energy to support the country's development and social welfare.
The National Transmission Network (RTN) is Mexico's high-voltage electricity grid, spanning over 111,000 km with 337,000 towers. It transports power from generation plants to distribution networks and end users, ensuring reliable energy supply. Ongoing upgrades aim to reduce losses and expand coverage nationwide.
