COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO - A massive 230 kV transformer has completed its journey from Wisconsin to Colorado and arrived at its new home at a Springs Utilities transmission substation.

Complete with a police escort, a 96-wheel trailer hauling the transformer arrived at the substation around 5 a.m. Tuesday to replace a unit that is 45 years old, reports KKTV11 News.

The new $2 million transformer is only one of six in the Colorado Springs Utilities system, explained Andrew Latrell, the senior project engineer for the utility company.

The transformer will be installed in October, while the old unit will be kept around as a spare.
