Manitoba-Minnesota transmission project receives federal approval

19 Jun 2019

CANADA - Canada's Ministry of Natural Resources has announced that the Governor in Council has approved the $451 million Manitoba-Minnesota transmission project, after reviewing reports from various institutions, reports NS Energy.

The transmission project that earlier received approval in Manitoba is intended to carry power to Minnesota, where the construction of the 500 kV power line is already underway.

The project is expected to include the Dorsey Interprovincial Power Line (IPL), a 213 km power line with 500 kV capacity, and modifications of two existing transmission lines.

IPL extends from northwest of Winnipeg to the State of Minnesota, and crosses the Canada-US border near Piney, Manitoba.

The Manitoba-Minnesota clean power project is expected to strengthen Canada's relationship with the US through electricity exports. It is slated for completion in June 2020.
