Manitoba Hydro commissions Manitoba-Minnesota transmission project

25 Aug 2020
Manitoba Hydro recently completed and commissioned the Manitoba-Minnesota transmission project (MMTP), a 132-mile 500 kV transmission line that will deliver additional electricity to Minnesota Power over the next 15 years.

The new interconnection is expected to increase Manitoba Hydro's capability to export surplus energy to the U.S. by 50%, and improve grid stability in the Province of Manitoba by increasing the capacity to import power from the U.S. from 700 MW to 1400 MW.
The originally anticipated two- to three-year construction schedule was reduced to eight months, with MMTP construction completed by mid-April 2020.
The line was commissioned on June 1, 2020.
