LUMA Energy has announced the completion and successful operation of a new transformer at the Santa Isabel TC substation in Puerto Rico, which will benefit over 24,000 customers in the municipalities of Aibonito, Coamo, and Santa Isabel. The transformer, a key source of energy for the region, will enhance reliability and redundancy for the area's power supply, alongside the recent repair of line 200.

This installation is part of a broader effort to improve Puerto Rico's energy infrastructure. The transmission center in Santa Isabel connects to five other substations, further improving service reliability across the central and southern regions. Extensive equipment checks, testing, and compliance with manufacturer standards ensured the proper function of the transformer before it was integrated into the system.

In addition to the transformer, LUMA completed repairs on transmission lines 4800 and 8500 and added a capacitor bank to mitigate voltage issues in the Santa Isabel area. Other projects included clearing vegetation in over 20 communities and constructing new distribution feeders in Jaucas and Salinas. Voltage regulators were also installed in Cuyón and Palmarejo to address long-standing electrical issues.

Dimas Torres, LUMA's director of western substations, emphasized the project's importance, stating, "This step demonstrates our commitment to strengthening Puerto Rico's electrical infrastructure for the benefit of residents and businesses."
