LS ELECTRIC Enters European Market with High-Voltage Transformer Deal
LS ELECTRIC has secured a contract to supply extra-high-voltage transformers to RWE, Germany’s largest private power producer, marking the company’s first export of such equipment to the European market.
According to industry sources, LS ELECTRIC signed a contract worth approximately $47 million (62 billion won) in early January to deliver 400-kilovolt (kV) transformers for a solar power and energy storage system (ESS) hybrid plant being developed by RWE in western Germany. Deliveries are scheduled to continue through 2027.
The transformers will be manufactured at LS ELECTRIC’s Busan plant, where capacity expansion was completed in December 2025. Extra-high-voltage transformers are critical infrastructure components used to transmit and convert large volumes of electricity and are typically custom-built to meet project-specific requirements.
The deal comes amid rising global demand for advanced power equipment, driven by expanding renewable energy projects, artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, and the need to replace aging power grids. Korean power equipment manufacturers have been increasing investment to capture opportunities in the European and North American markets.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) has noted that demand for extra-high-voltage transformers is expected to continue growing as electricity consumption increases alongside digital and AI-driven industries.
