LS ELECTRIC and GE Vernova Launch HVDC Technology Joint Venture
LS ELECTRIC and GE Vernova are establishing Grid X Technology, a joint venture focused on voltage-source HVDC equipment and projects in South Korea.
The companies signed the agreement on Aug. 25 at CIGRE 2026 in Paris. The venture will develop and supply key HVDC equipment, with a focus on supporting the planned West Coast Energy Highway, which will transmit renewable power from western regions toward the Seoul metropolitan area.
Voltage-source HVDC enables controlled and bidirectional power transmission, supporting the integration of renewable generation into high-capacity grids.
Koo Ja-kyun, chairman of LS ELECTRIC, said, “This partnership is a decision to stably build the energy highway by combining world-class technology with domestic experience,” adding, “We will strengthen our competitiveness so that the Republic of Korea can lead global HVDC technology and business.”
The partnership combines LS ELECTRIC’s domestic project experience with GE Vernova’s HVDC technology.
