LS Electric and GE Vernova Join Forces to Enhance HVDC Infrastructure

LS Electric has announced a significant step towards strengthening its presence in both domestic and global High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) markets. The company has solidified its partnership with GE Vernova through an enhanced collaboration, aiming to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for HVDC technology.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between LS Electric and GE Vernova on January 24th marks a strategic alliance for global cooperation in Voltage Source Converter (VSC) HVDC projects. This partnership underscores a joint commitment to actively use the HV transformer production infrastructure, including the Busan plant, to promptly supply products to global customers.

HVDC technology involves the conversion of alternating current (AC) generated at power plants into high-voltage direct current (DC) for transmission, offering advantages such as long-distance, high-capacity transmission and control of power flow. LS Electric's investment in establishing the first domestic HVDC-dedicated factory in Busan demonstrates its commitment to advancing key facilities for HVDC production.

GE Vernova's expertise and recognition in the global HVDC market, combined with LS Electric's manufacturing capabilities, position the alliance to capitalize on the growing demand for VSC HVDC technology. This collaboration signifies a significant stride towards enhancing infrastructure for efficient power transmission and distribution on a global scale.

In a statement, Oh Jae Seok, LS Electric CEO, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, "Starting with this MOU, we will strengthen our competitiveness in high-voltage power equipment and simultaneously grow together as a specialized infrastructure company in the future power industry."
