Largest solar project in U.S. history gets approval

22 May 2020

Solar Partners XI, LLC received approval from the U.S. Department of the Interior to build a 690 MW photovoltaic solar electric generating facility and ancillary facilities northeast of Las Vegas, making it eighth-largest solar project in the world.

Known as the Gemini Solar Project, when finished, it will also be the largest solar project in the United States.

The project valued at around $1 billion should provide enough power to support 260,000 homes across the Las Vegas and Southern California areas.

Between its renewable and storage capacity, it is anticipated it could provide more than one gigawatt of total capacity.

Construction is set to begin in 2021. It will have two phases, with completion expected as early as 2022.
