Kyrgyzstan Begins Nationwide Power Transformer Upgrade in 2026
Kyrgyzstan has initiated a large-scale program to repair and upgrade its power transformer infrastructure throughout 2026, according to the Ministry of Energy.
The initiative focuses on improving grid reliability and electricity quality in Bishkek, where 298 power transformers (6–10/0.4 kV) are scheduled for repair and 38 new units will be installed. The project will run from March through November.
The program is financed by JSC "KUET" and implemented by the Bishkek Electrical Networks enterprise. Work includes technical inspections, replacement of worn components, and general servicing.
Upgrades will be distributed across the city’s electrical networks: 113 repairs and 25 installations in the Eastern network, 100 repairs and 3 installations in the Western network, and 85 repairs with 10 new units in the Northern network.
Officials state the improvements aim to enhance transmission efficiency, balance loads, and ensure a more stable electricity supply for consumers. The Bishkek Electrical Networks enterprise currently manages 2,248 transformers, all of which are expected to undergo servicing by the end of the year.
