INDIA - Klovertel Private Limited, New Delhi and Pfiffner Instrument Transformers, Switzerland have completed the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a voltage divider for Power Grid Corporation India Limited.

The 814-km (505-mile) HVDC connection between Rihand and Dadri near Delhi in India was commissioned in 1990. Since then, it connects the 3,000 MW Rihand Thermal Power Station in Uttar Pradesh to the northern region of India. The bipolar 500 kV DC plant transmits the maximum power of 1,500 MW.

The 500 kV DC Voltage Divider was replaced and put into operation during the Dadri HVDC substation shutdown.

The system completed all prequalification test requirements according to IEC 61869, with additional requirements for nominal DC voltage up to 500 kV. It can be used for dividing the primary voltage into standardized, equivalent secondary voltage for metering, measuring and protection devices, which are required in the HVDC transmission line, the manufacturers said in a press release.
