JST Power Equipment Opens New Transformer Manufacturing Facility in Virginia
JST Power Equipment has officially opened a new transformer manufacturing facility in Wytheville, Virginia, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on May 19.
The facility, located in Wytheville’s Fairview Industrial Park, spans approximately 45,000 square feet across two buildings and marks the company’s 11th location in the United States. The Lake Mary, Florida-based company said it expects to initially employ between 35 and 50 workers across manufacturing, engineering, and office roles, with additional hiring planned as production expands.
Transformers are essential components of the electrical grid, helping regulate voltage as electricity moves from generation sources to homes, businesses, hospitals, and data centers.
According to the company, the new facility is intended to support rising demand for electrical infrastructure driven by electrification, grid modernization efforts, and renewable energy integration.
In a statement, JST Power Equipment said the Wytheville operation is expected to help customers develop more resilient and efficient energy systems as utilities continue upgrading transmission and distribution networks.
The opening reflects broader investment trends in domestic transformer manufacturing as utilities and energy developers respond to growing power demand and infrastructure expansion across North America.
