Italian transformer successfully transported to Isle of Wight site

16 May 2019

PORTSMOUTH, UNITED KINGDOM - UK-based transport specialist Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) had to overcome a series of challenges to install a power transformer at East Cowes Power Station located on the Isle of Wight, an island off the south coast of England.

The transformer, manufactured by Tironi, arrived from Italy.

Once the transformer was unloaded, the transport challenges included the live substation environment, which had several areas that could not be shut down, and uneven terrain as a road sloped away in two directions, reports Cranes Today.

Due to limited space onsite and the ground sloping, hydraulic skidding was used for the project instead of a crane.

This has been the second transformer installed on this site in the past year.
