Iraq and Iran to Repair 5,000 Transformers as Part of Power Industry Cooperation

13 Jan 2025
Iran's Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi, and Iraq's Minister of Electricity and Energy, Ziad Ali Fadhil, met to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the power sector. The talks focused on the exchange of electricity, the export of technical services, and the development of infrastructure.

During the meeting, the two ministers agreed to repair 5,000 transformers in Iraq, introduce Iranian companies for equipment supply, and collaborate on the construction and maintenance of power plants. The discussion also included joint knowledge transfer and training opportunities.

This marks another chapter in the longstanding energy relationship between the two countries, where Iran has been a key electricity exporter to Iraq, especially during peak demand periods. Iranian companies have also been involved in several infrastructure projects in Iraq, contributing to the development of the nation's power grid and generation capacity.

The ministers agreed to establish a dedicated task force to support these initiatives. In Abbas Aliabadi's upcoming visit to Iraq, these discussions will be expanded, including the involvement of Iran's private sector to further boost energy collaboration.
