Indiana Michigan Power plans grid upgrade project

8 Mar 2021
INDIANA -- American Electric Power's Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is planning an electric transmission grid upgrade project in northeast Fort Wayne.

The Robison Park - Lincoln Transmission Line Rebuild Project would involve upgrading around 8 miles of 138 kV electric transmission line and improvements to the Trier Substation.
Power lines running through the existing right-of-way would be rebuilt, swapping out deteriorating towers from the 1920s with new steel monopoles.
Project areas include the City of Fort Wayne and Adams and St. Joseph townships in Allen County.
The aim of the project is to bring the transmission grid in the Fort Wayne area up to current structural standards, improve the line's performance and reduce the frequency of repairs.
The project is set to start in early 2022 and finish in 2023.
