Iberdrola’s largest wind farm uses optimized transformer solution

8 Sep 2020
Iberdrola, through its subsidiary Scottish Power Renewables, has put into operation the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm in British waters in the North Sea.

For the project, Hitachi ABB Power Grids designed a customized transformer solution that combines two transformers into one single unit to optimize footprint and reduce losses and overall cost.
The three-winding transformer provides the functionality of evacuating power from the 714 MW offshore windfarm to the UK grid and STATCOM, the equipment to improve power quality and stability.
The wind farm is now the largest wind farm in Iberdrola's history and one of the world's largest of its kind, with an installed capacity of 714 MW and 102 turbines that produce clean energy for 630,000 British homes.
