Iberdrola España Enhances Power Supply with Silla Substation Transformer Upgrade
Iberdrola España, through its distribution subsidiary i-DE, has completed the replacement of a high-voltage transformer at the Silla substation in Valencia, reinforcing electricity supply to over 22,000 customers in Silla, Beniparrell, Alcà sser, Picassent, and the La Coma industrial estate.
The transformer, weighing over 75 tonnes, was installed using local Valencian companies, emphasizing Iberdrola's commitment to regional economic support. The substation distributes electricity via 15 medium-voltage lines totaling 152 kilometers, both overhead and underground, serving residential and industrial users.
This upgrade is part of Iberdrola's €100 million il·lumina plan, which aims to redesign and rebuild the electricity network affected by recent extreme weather events known as the "cold drop." The project improves supply resilience and enhances connections to neighboring substations like El Saler, Cullera, Perelló, and Almussafes, collectively benefiting more than 100,000 customers.
Ignacio GarcÃa Bosch, head of the il·lumina plan, noted significant progress, including renovations to over 200 transformer stations and improvements to medium-voltage infrastructure. The company has also implemented measures to minimize disruptions during outages, such as night work and generator installations.
The il·lumina plan involves a dedicated team of 35 people and approximately 1,000 local operators, ensuring ongoing investments across the Valencian Community while advancing the modernization and digitalization of the electricity grid.
