I&M to invest $11m on rebuild project in central Indiana

21 Jan 2021
American Electric Power's Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is planning to invest about $11 million in the Anderson Area Improvements Project in order to upgrade the electric transmission network serving customers in Madison County in central Indiana.

The project involves rebuilding about four miles of 138 kV transmission line and upgrading a substation, the company said, noting that it plans to rebuild the line in the existing right of way (ROW), which may require widening in some areas.
The project area includes the City of Anderson and Madison County.
The improvements are designed to strengthen the transmission system by replacing wooden poles from the 1960s with steel structures, the company said, adding that modern structures reduce ongoing maintenance of the power line, improve operational performance of the power line, and reduce the likelihood of extended power outages.
Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2021 and the completion is expected in winter 2024.
