Hyundai Electric Expands in UK with Green Transformer Supply Deal
HD Hyundai Electric has won a â‚©140.4 billion (approx. $109 million) contract to supply 13 ultra-high voltage transformers to National Grid, a leading UK power company. The deal includes 12 units of 400kV class and one unit of 275kV, with final deliveries scheduled by 2028.
Of the 13 units, 11 are eco-friendly, using plant-based synthetic insulating oil rather than conventional mineral oil. These transformers, which offer lower fire risks and environmental benefits, are well-suited for renewable energy sites, urban centers, and sensitive industrial zones.
This marks HD Hyundai Electric's second major UK order this year, following a previous contract with a Scottish power provider in May. The company has previously secured similar contracts in the United States, reinforcing its position in the sustainable power equipment market.
As the UK accelerates power sector decarbonization by 2035, driven by offshore wind and solar expansion, demand for advanced, eco-friendly grid infrastructure is rising. HD Hyundai Electric aims to leverage this opportunity to increase its presence across Europe.
"This contract is based on our experience and quality competitiveness in supplying synthetic oil transformers in countries like the U.S.," a company spokesperson stated.
