Hyosung to Supply Transformers for Brazil’s Serra do Facão Hydropower Plant
Hyosung Heavy Industries has secured a contract to supply power transformers for the Serra do Facão hydropower plant in Brazil. The order expands the South Korean manufacturer's presence in the Latin American power market, where investment in transmission and generation infrastructure continues to support grid modernization and renewable energy integration.
The transformers will be installed at the 210 MW Serra do Facão hydroelectric plant, located in Brazil's Goiás state. The project is intended to replace ageing equipment and improve the reliability and operational performance of the facility, which has been in service since 2010. The contract reflects continued demand for transformer replacements and upgrades at existing hydropower assets.
According to Hyosung, the company has been expanding its global transformer business through long-term supply agreements and project-specific contracts across North America, Europe, Australia, and Latin America. Recent orders include transmission projects in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Spain, as utilities respond to growing electricity demand and renewable energy expansion.
The Brazil contract further strengthens Hyosung's position in the global transformer market, where utilities are investing in replacement programs and new grid infrastructure to improve system reliability and accommodate the energy transition.
