Hyosung Heavy Industries Signs $60.8M Agreement with Scottish Power for Grid Infrastructure

19 May 2025
Hyosung Heavy Industries, a South Korea-based power and industrial systems firm, has signed a contract worth 85 billion won ($60.8 million) with Scottish Power to supply 400kV ultra-high voltage transformers for Scotland's growing renewable energy grid.

The equipment will support transmission of wind-generated electricity from both onshore and offshore facilities to cities across Scotland, aligning with the country's 2045 net-zero carbon goals.

This deal cements Hyosung Heavy Industries' leading position in the UK's UHV transformer market, a title it has held since 2022. The UK, particularly Scotland, has become a major hub for renewable infrastructure investment thanks to its extensive wind resources.

Beyond the UK, Hyosung is strengthening its footprint across Western Europe. The company recently became the first Korean transformer manufacturer to enter a long-term supply agreement with a German transmission operator. It has also won repeat contracts in France and signed new deals in Spain.

Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung Group, attributed the company's continued success in Europe to its technological expertise and customer-focused solutions.

As of Q1 2025, Hyosung Heavy Industries reports a total order backlog of approximately 10 trillion won, with major projects ongoing in Europe, North America, and other global markets.
