Hyosung Heavy Industries Exceeds $7 Billion in Circuit Breaker Production

28 Nov 2024
Hyosung Heavy Industries has become the first South Korean company in the domestic industry to exceed a cumulative production value of approximately $7 billion (10 trillion won) for circuit breakers. The milestone was celebrated on Tuesday at the company's Changwon plant in South Gyeongsang Province, with around 400 officials in attendance, including CEO Woo Tae-hee.

The company, a leader in power transmission and distribution, has achieved this success through decades of innovation. Since beginning circuit breaker production in 1977, Hyosung has developed several groundbreaking technologies, including South Korea's first 170kV gas circuit breaker in 1978 and the world's first 800kV double-breaker gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) in 1999.

In recent years, Hyosung has expanded its global reach, supplying products to over 40 countries. This year, the company secured a 22 billion won contract with Iceland's state-run power company, marking its largest GIS supply deal in Europe.

CEO Woo highlighted the company's commitment to innovation and global leadership, stating, "Our consistent efforts in research and expanding orders helped us achieve this milestone. We will strengthen our position as a global leader by expanding production of energy storage systems and high-voltage direct current systems, alongside our core products."
