Hydro One to spend $24.6m on Minden transformer station expansion project

19 Apr 2019

ONTARIO, CANADA - Hydro One is planning the Minden transformer station upgrade project, which will cost close to $24.6m (CAD$33 million) and the work will modernize the station, bring greater electrical capacity and provide reliable energy, reports The Minden Times.

Originally built in the 1950s, the 70-year-old Minden transformer station was in need of investment for the future. Also, last year the T1 transformer was destroyed in the fire that left some 20,000 customers in the dark for at least a few hours.

The upgrade project will be implemented in five stages, and it will include installation of the T2 transformer, the construction of two new buildings and technical upgrades, then installation of T1 transformer and finish with removal of the old station equipment.

The work is expected to start in June this year and is scheduled for completion in March 2021.
