Hydro One announces 5-year plan for infrastructure upgrades

28 Feb 2019

Hydro One, an electricity transmission and distribution utility serving almost 1.4 million customers across the Canadian province of Ontario, intends to significantly upgrade its infrastructure in the Ottawa region over the next five years, a plan that includes working with Hydro Ottawa to double the amount of available power in south Nepean.

The program of upgrades expected to cost almost CAD $100 million over that five-year period will focus on replacing equipment that's reached the end of its life cycle, and on bolstering infrastructure in anticipation of growth in the city's west and southwest areas.

The utility has recently completed CAD $10 million repairs to the Merivale station's transformer, poles and towers which were completely destroyed by an EF-2 tornado that tore through Nepean on September 21, 2018.
