Huntsville Utilities Receives New 10/14 MVA Transformer from Virginia Transformer
Virginia Transformer Corp. has completed the delivery of a new power distribution transformer to Huntsville Utilities in Alabama, supporting long-term grid reliability in the region.
The unit, rated at 10/14 megavolt-amperes (MVA) with a voltage configuration of 43.8/12.47 kilovolts (kV), was manufactured at Virginia Transformer’s Roanoke, Virginia facility. The transformer was designed with an expected 60-year operational lifespan, aimed at providing dependable electrical service over several decades.
Huntsville Utilities, a publicly owned utility serving customers in Huntsville and Madison County, supplies electric, water, and natural gas services. The utility is currently the 17th-largest publicly owned utility service in the United States.
According to the company, the project reflects ongoing investment by U.S. utilities in modernizing and maintaining power distribution infrastructure. The delivery was supported by Southcon, Virginia Transformer’s manufacturers’ representative for the region.
Virginia Transformer said it continues to support utility projects nationwide by supplying transformers with an emphasis on quality, reliability, and lead-time efficiency, as utilities respond to growing electricity demand and infrastructure replacement needs.
