H&MV Engineering Completes Grid Works for Stendal BESS

17 Jul 2026
The Stendal West Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, is approaching commissioning, marking a significant addition to the country’s expanding energy storage infrastructure.

The project features a 116 MW installation with 230 MWh of storage capacity and is designed to provide fast-response grid balancing services while supporting greater flexibility within the German power system.

H&MV Engineering has been responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) delivery of the project’s grid connection and electrical balance of plant. The scope included a 110 kV air-insulated substation (AIS), 110/33 kV transformers, 33 kV substation infrastructure and integration of the battery storage system.

The energy storage equipment has been supplied by Sungrow Europe using its PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system, which is designed for utility-scale applications.

Developed by Nofar Energy, the Stendal West project demonstrates the growing role of large-scale battery storage in supporting grid stability as renewable energy penetration increases.

The project is expected to contribute to Germany’s energy transition by enabling improved grid flexibility, balancing services and more effective integration of renewable generation.
