Hitachi Energy to Invest $106M in Tennessee Manufacturing Expansion
Hitachi Energy announced a $106 million investment to expand its transformer component manufacturing facility in Alamo, Tennessee, creating over 100 new jobs in Crockett County.
The project will add 60,000 square feet to the existing plant, including 35,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, 20,000 sq. ft. of warehouse facilities, and 5,000 sq. ft. of office space. The expansion, expected to be operational by mid-2027, will make the site the largest bushings manufacturing facility in North America.
The investment is part of the company's $6 billion global strategy to strengthen transformer manufacturing and grid infrastructure worldwide. A total of $1.5 billion has been allocated to scaling production capacity, as demand grows for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and dry-type bushings to support data centers, AI infrastructure, and long-distance energy transmission.
"This expansion strengthens our ability to deliver vital components to U.S. customers while creating long-term opportunities in West Tennessee," said Steve McKinney, head of transformers for North America at Hitachi Energy.
State and federal officials, including Governor Bill Lee and Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, welcomed the project, citing its role in boosting local jobs and securing U.S. energy infrastructure.
The Alamo facility will also feature an integrated logistics center and a vertically integrated machine shop to increase efficiency and reduce reliance on external suppliers.
