Hitachi Energy to Expand Transformer Manufacturing in India with New Vadodara Facility
Hitachi Energy is investing approximately INR 2000 crore (~$210 million) to establish a new Large Power Transformer factory in Karjan, Vadodara, India, strengthening its regional manufacturing footprint and supporting growing electricity demand.
The investment is intended to expand local production capacity for power transformers used in transmission, HVDC systems, power generation, and industrial applications. The facility is scheduled for completion in FY28 and will complement the company’s existing manufacturing base across Gujarat, Mysore, and Halol.
The company highlighted India’s strategic importance in global electrification and grid expansion. Venu Nuguri, Managing Director & CEO of Hitachi Energy India Ltd., said:
“This investment reflects our confidence in India’s energy future and the country’s growing stature as a strategic manufacturing base. By expanding our manufacturing presence, we aim to empower local communities, create skilled jobs, and deliver innovative solutions that support the country’s energy and sustainability goals.”
The project is part of Hitachi Energy’s broader global investment program aimed at scaling production capacity for critical grid infrastructure. It also aligns with India’s growing demand for transmission expansion to integrate renewable energy and support rising electricity consumption.

The new facility is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs and will be developed as a fully digital, LEED-certified manufacturing site focused on efficiency, sustainability, and smart production systems.
