Hitachi Energy to Build US$200M Transformer Factory in São Paulo
Hitachi Energy, part of Hitachi Ltd. (TSE:6501), announced plans to build a new power transformer factory in Pindamonhangaba, São Paulo, as part of a US$200 million investment in Brazil. The company said approximately 80% of the funding will go toward the facility, which is expected to be completed in 2028.
The plant, covering 46,300 m² in its first phase, is designed to produce large-scale transformers for transmission, generation, and distribution projects in domestic and international markets. According to the company, the investment will create about 450 direct jobs and 1,800 indirect jobs, while doubling its transformer production capacity in Brazil.
Pindamonhangaba was chosen for its strategic location between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with access to the ports of Santos and ItaguaÃ. The facility will incorporate LEED sustainability standards, including renewable energy use, rainwater reuse, and waste management systems.
The factory will join Hitachi Energy's existing Brazilian operations in Guarulhos (SP) and Blumenau (SC), reinforcing its role in the country's energy transition and infrastructure expansion. The company said the project aligns with its US$9 billion global program to strengthen manufacturing, R&D, and partnerships worldwide.
An inauguration event is scheduled for August 26, featuring a panel discussion on private-sector contributions to the energy transition ahead of COP30, to be held in Brazil in November 2025.
