Hitachi Energy to Acquire Canduct Group to Strengthen Transformer Supply Chain

18 Jun 2026
Hitachi Energy has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Canduct Group, a Canada-based manufacturer of transformer insulation kits and components, in a move aimed at easing supply chain constraints in the North American power transformer market.

The transaction, announced on 17 June 2026, is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary approvals. Canduct Group, headquartered in Ontario, has been supplying insulation components to transformer original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and repair firms across the United States and Canada since 1982.

The acquisition will integrate more than 300 employees into Hitachi Energy’s operations and expand its regional production footprint for insulation kits used in power and distribution transformers—critical components in grid infrastructure.

According to Bruno Melles, CEO of the Business Unit Transformers at Hitachi Energy, “Hitachi Energy is strengthening its leadership in transformer insulation through this strategic expansion in North America. By acquiring Canduct Group, we are expanding regional capabilities, strengthening supply chains for insulation kits and components, and supporting the growing demand for electrification across the region.”

The company stated that the move addresses a key bottleneck in transformer manufacturing capacity, as utilities and grid operators face rising electricity demand and accelerated infrastructure buildouts. Transformer insulation systems—including bushings, tap-changers, and related accessories—remain essential for safe and reliable grid operation.
