Hitachi Energy Strengthens Latin America Commitment with $150 Million Transformer Investment
Hitachi Energy has announced plans to invest $150 million to expand power transformer manufacturing in Latin America, aiming to address growing global demand for grid infrastructure as electrification accelerates.
The investment will support manufacturing sites in Colombia and Brazil, with $80 million allocated to expand the company’s transformer factory in Dosquebradas, Risaralda, and $70 million directed toward facilities in Pindamonhangaba and Guarulhos in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.
According to the company, the Dosquebradas expansion project will include new manufacturing and storage areas, upgraded industrial facilities, additional machinery, and increased automation. The project will also involve acquiring additional land to support future logistics and production growth. The factory, originally built in 1963, exports power transformers to markets across the Americas and Europe.
In Brazil, the new funding will complement a previously announced $200 million investment aimed at building a new transformer factory in Pindamonhangaba and expanding operations at the Guarulhos facility. Once completed, the expansion is expected to increase production capacity by approximately 50 percent and expand the Pindamonhangaba plant’s built area to around 48,300 square meters.
The projects are also expected to create several hundred direct and indirect jobs, supporting regional manufacturing supply chains and industrial development.
Demand for power transformers has increased significantly in recent years as countries expand renewable energy capacity, modernize electricity grids, and develop energy-intensive infrastructure such as data centers and artificial intelligence facilities.
