Hitachi Energy’s transformer technology supports Svenska kraftnät to strengthen the Swedish grid

30 Sep 2022

UK - The delivery of the transformers and reactors is planned for 2024.

Hitachi Energy has announced two major orders from Svenska kraftnät. The orders include both Transformers and reactors that will strengthen the existing Swedish electricity grid to enable electrification.

According to Hitachi Energy, the orders include the design, production and installation of three major power transformers and nine shunt reactors, with an option for six additional reactors. The technology will be delivered to three main grid stations that will be upgraded to meet the increased need for electricity and directly strengthen the grid. The delivery of the transformers and reactors is planned for 2024.

According to the company, the upgrade of the three stations includes Svenska kraftnät's tuna station, in Uppsala County, which is expected to increase power consumption to Stockholm and Uppsala by approximately 320 megawatts. The two other stations are located outside Stockholm and Köping and together the three form an important part of the hub of Mälardalen's main network.

"Electrification is crucial to achieving the climate goals and we are proud to continue to be trusted to deliver both technology and expertise that directly contribute to the energy transition here at home and accelerate Sweden's energy system to become more sustainable, flexible and safe", says Tobias Hansson, CEO of Hitachi Energy in Sweden. "Strengthening the core network and ensuring distribution is crucial to be able to take advantage of newly built generation and the investments made for increased electrification," he adds.
