Hitachi Energy Powers Up India’s Largest Eco-Conscious Transformer
Hitachi Energy has dispatched India's first 400 kV class three-phase power transformer filled with synthetic ester fluid, developed for the Power Grid Corporation of India. The transformer, rated at 315 MVA, is the largest of its kind in India in terms of both voltage class and capacity.
Manufactured entirely at Hitachi Energy's Maneja facility in Vadodara, the transformer is built on the company's Trafostar global platform. It reflects a key step toward India's energy self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Unlike conventional mineral oil-filled transformers, this unit uses synthetic ester fluid, which has a high flash point of 330°C and is biodegradable. These features significantly reduce the risk of fire and environmental impact, making the transformer suitable for high-density and sensitive installations.
The new transformer supports higher temperature operations, increased load capacity, improved energy efficiency, and lower operating costs. Hitachi Energy noted this milestone reinforces its commitment to advanced and sustainable power technologies.
