Hitachi Energy, a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., has entered a strategic partnership with Blackstone Energy Transition Partners to expand its service business in North America. As part of the deal, Hitachi Energy will acquire a minority stake in Shermco, a provider of maintenance, repair, testing, commissioning, and design services for electrical infrastructure in the U.S. and Canada.
The partnership aims to strengthen capabilities in maintaining the reliability and safety of the region's power grid, a sector facing challenges from aging infrastructure and workforce retirements. Hitachi Energy is also committing over $1 billion globally to expand its service footprint, develop digital solutions such as HMAX Energy, and grow its workforce, including 5,000 new service experts.
The collaboration brings together three industry leaders: Hitachi Energy, Blackstone, and Shermco, aiming to enhance lifecycle support for critical energy infrastructure--from power generation and transmission to industrial and data center electrification.
Wolf Mueller, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy's Service Business, stated that combining Hitachi Energy's grid expertise with Shermco's field service presence will set a new benchmark for electrical infrastructure services across North America.
This investment reflects growing demand for reliable, safe, and digitally enabled service solutions in the electricity sector amid rapid electrification trends.
