Hitachi Energy Invests $14M to Expand Transformer Factory in Thailand
Hitachi Energy, a global leader in electrification and grid technologies, has announced an investment of $14 million USD (455 million THB) to expand its transformer factory in Samutprakarn, Thailand.
The investment is part of the company's $9 billion USD global program to increase manufacturing, research and development, and supply capacity for critical grid equipment as electricity demand rises worldwide.
The expansion, scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, will increase the Samutprakarn factory's production capacity by 60 percent. The facility will also be upgraded with advanced technologies, optimized layouts for efficiency, and improved safety systems. A modernization of the power transformer test lab is included to meet growing demand for large power transformers.
Carlos Pettinau, Hub APMEA Manager for the Business Unit Transformers at Hitachi Energy, said the investment demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting both local and global energy transitions.
In operation since 1990, the Samutprakarn site specializes in liquid-filled power transformers designed on the company's TrafoStar technology platform, deployed across its 17 transformer factories worldwide. These transformers are essential for electricity transmission, renewable integration, and grid stability.
The project is expected to generate local jobs, support communities, and strengthen Thailand's role in regional energy infrastructure.
