Hitachi Energy India to Double Mysuru Pressboard Capacity

1 Sep 2025
Hitachi Energy India Ltd. has announced a $34 million investment to expand its Mysuru manufacturing facility, aiming to double its production capacity of high-voltage transformer-grade pressboard and laminated board. The move comes amid growing global demand for reliable transformer insulation materials, essential to power grid infrastructure.

The expanded facility, expected to be completed by mid-2027, will serve both Indian and international markets, including the U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and South Korea. It will also mark a significant sustainability milestone, replacing fossil fuel boilers with a fully fossil-free heat and electricity process, making it one of the lowest-carbon pressboard production lines globally.

Part of a broader $226 M investment strategy announced in 2024, the Mysuru project supports the localization of critical energy infrastructure components and aims to strengthen the domestic supply chain.

N Venu, Managing Director & CEO of Hitachi Energy India, stated, "With this expansion, we're proud to support India's growing grid and renewable energy integration."

Helmut Bockshammer, Global Product Group Manager, added that the investment secures supply chains while aligning with the global shift toward renewables.

Transformer insulation is critical in managing grid stability and preventing internal faults, especially as electricity demand continues to rise globally. This expansion positions Hitachi Energy India to address the pressing global shortage in transformer components, while enhancing sustainability and supply resilience.
