Hitachi Energy Delivers Largest Transformer in Guarulhos Factory’s History
Hitachi Energy has delivered the largest transformer ever produced at its Guarulhos facility in Brazil. The unit, rated at 580 MVA and 380 kV, weighs over 500 tonnes and will be used in a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) project in Saudi Arabia.
The project will span more than 630 kilometers and is intended to reduce environmental impact while improving electricity supply quality. According to the company, this shipment marks the beginning of a broader HVDC development in the region.
Hitachi Energy stated that the transformer is part of its HVDC Light® portfolio, based on voltage-sourced converter (VSC) technology. The company reports having delivered more than half of all existing HVDC VSC connections globally and has been active in over 120 HVDC projects to date.
