Hitachi ABB Power Grids to boost Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company’s Delta Zone network

4 Oct 2021

CAIRO, EGYPT -- The project should help improve resilience, safety and energy efficiency for 26 million people.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids and Elsewedy Electric T&D, a subsidiary of Elsewedy Electric have been appointed by the state-owned Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to establish the new Delta Zone Regional Control Centre (DRCC). Located at Mansoura City in the Delta region, North Egypt, the centre should help improve the reliability and efficiency of the local electricity network and help the country reach its sustainability goals.

Hitachi ABB will provide their supervisory control and energy management system that provides enhanced situational awareness allowing for real-time data transfer from the connected substations to the control centre.

The new system will enable the monitoring, control and optimization of the power transmission grid, leading to increased resilience, safety and efficiency of the energy supply for more than 26 million people. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months.

"The Delta Zone is significant to the country's growth and development, and a stable and resilient electricity infrastructure is vital to support that growth," said Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy for Egypt.

"We are proud to support Egypt's growth plans with our extensive project experience in the region delivering large mission-critical software and communication network solutions," said Massimo Danieli, Executive Vice President, Grid Automation, Hitachi ABB Power.
