Hitachi ABB Power Grids is developing a new range of remote services for transformer fleets, including remote monitoring, consulting, troubleshooting, and guidance using augmented reality.

With the new range of remote services, Hitachi ABB Power Grids aims to support customers in analyzing large amounts of data and creating comprehensive reports that include the next steps required for optimal maintenance, the company said in a press release.

"Digitalization and the amount of collected data can be overwhelming. We help our customers turn data into insights and make better decisions," said Helmut Bockshammer, Global Head of Transformer Components and Service business. "During the pandemic, we had reduced access to sites. That made customers all the more appreciative of having remote access to our expertise and demonstrated the value of augmented reality in enhancing diagnostic and troubleshooting support."

Remote monitoring securely connects transformers to a centralized monitoring system in a plant or substation control room via standardized wired, wireless, or cellular communication.

By combining the new remote services with long-term service agreements provides, Hitachi ABB Power Grids provides continuous visibility into a transformer's condition, which allows customers to schedule required maintenance and avoid unnecessary disruption in operations due to unexpected downtime, the company said in a press release.
