Hitachi ABB expands transformer manufacturing in Vietnam

21 Jan 2021
VIETNAM - Hitachi ABB Power Grids has been commissioned by Toji Group to deliver a 220 kV power transformer for a solar power plant in the Bình Phước Province.

The manufacturer has delivered the power transformer for the fast-track 50 MWp Loc Ninh 5 Solar Power Plant in the series of Loc Ninh 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 solar projects with a total capacity of 800 MWp. The plant, developed by Hung Hai Group, is located in the Bình Phước Province of Vietnam.
To power its economy, Vietnam aims to utilize its renewable energy potential: 4 - 5 kWh/m2 of solar incidence and 1,864 miles of coastlines with consistent winds in the range of 5.5 to 7.3 m/s. The Loc Ninh 5 solar power plant is expected to feed electricity to the Vietnam grid. The 220 kV power transformer is an important link in the renewable energy delivery value chain.
"We are excited to partner with Vietnam to strengthen its electrical networks and integrate more renewable energy. Expanding local manufacturing of essential equipment in the country will help us to contribute to that," said  Chandan Singh, Managing Director, Hitachi ABB Power Grids Vietnam Co. Ltd. "Enhancing the manufacturing facilities of power transformers is one step in that direction".
Hitachi ABB Power Grids' power transformers facility in Hanoi, Vietnam recently upgraded its transformer manufacturing and testing facilities from 171 kV to 230 kV.
Local manufacturing capabilities should help meet turnaround times required for solar and wind power plants, create a credible local service ecosystem and reduce transportation costs for customers.
