Hillburn powers up with a new transformer and a $17M transmission upgrade

27 May 2020

HILLBURN, NEW YORK - Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R) has completed a two-year overhaul project its Ramapo transmission substation in Hillburn, New York, which is expected to improve electric reliability and capacity.

The project was completed in April with the installation of a second power transformer.

This will help the company meet high summer demand and strengthen its transmission network, making it more robust and resilient.

"This project represents a major milestone in our daily efforts to improve electric service reliability," O&R President and CEO Robert Sanchez said.

The Ramapo substation revamp fits into larger investments made by O&R into improving electric reliability. Those efforts have seen more than $140 million invested this year and nearly $10 billion over the past decade.
