HIGHVOLT and CEPCO to equip largest electrical testing lab in Middle East

21 Oct 2019

DAMMAM, SAUDI ARABIA - HIGHVOLT and CEPCO have been awarded a contract to provide equipment for GCC Electrical Testing Laboratory (GCC ETL), the largest testing laboratory in the Middle East region and the largest testing laboratory in the world ever built in a single construction phase.

The laboratory will offer a range of test bays for testing low, middle and high voltage equipment like transformers, cables and switchgears.

The biggest and most important part will be the high voltage test laboratory, which will be equipped with test systems for voltages up to 1,200 kV and an impulse voltage test system for over 3,000 kV, as well as a three-phase AC voltage test system with a capacity of 4,000 kVA specifically for testing power transformers.

The scope of delivery also includes test systems for on site testing, including a system for testing complete transformer stations with switchgears, transformers and short supply cables.

Built in close cooperation with a global testing service provider CESI, the GCC Lab is slated for completion by 2021.

The project volume for supply and construction of high-voltage test systems is around $22.3 million.
