HD Hyundai Electric has achieved a significant milestone with the successful approval test of its 230-kilovolt (kV) 653MVA phase shifting transformer (PST), the largest of its kind produced in South Korea. The transformer is slated for delivery by August to a New York wind farm developed by Invenergy, the largest renewable energy company in the United States.

Phase shifting transformers are critical components that regulate power flow between grids, ensuring stability and efficiency in electricity transmission. The new PST by HD Hyundai Electric is classified as large-scale, exceeding the 300MVA benchmark, and stands out in terms of capacity and size among domestically manufactured units.

The demand for special transformers is surging globally, particularly in the U.S. and Europe, where grid modernization and renewable energy integration drive investment. The global special transformer market, valued at $2.5 billion in 2024, is projected to reach $4.8 billion by 2033, according to Verified Market Research.
