HD Hyundai Electric Secures $721M Data Center Power Deal
HD Hyundai Electric has secured a framework agreement worth up to 1.12 trillion won (about $721 million) to supply power and distribution equipment for large-scale data center projects developed by a global Big Tech company. The contract positions the firm deeper into the fast-expanding data center infrastructure segment, where power reliability and scalability have become central design requirements.
The agreement covers two core segments: 553.9 billion won in distribution equipment and 567.3 billion won in power equipment. The scope reflects an integrated supply model, combining both layers of electrical infrastructure needed for hyperscale data center operations.
According to the company, the bundled approach is designed to improve system compatibility while reducing risks linked to delivery schedules, quality control, and after-sales servicing. By supplying both distribution and high-voltage power systems under one framework, HD Hyundai Electric strengthens its position across the broader power value chain.
Although the identity of the customer remains undisclosed due to confidentiality terms, the deal aligns with accelerating global investment in data center capacity, particularly in North America. The company referenced projections from the International Energy Agency, noting that global data center electricity consumption is expected to rise from 415 TWh in 2024 to 945 TWh by 2030.
In the United States, data centers are forecast to account for roughly half of the growth in electricity demand by 2030, driven by rapid expansion of hyperscale facilities supporting cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads.
Within the announcement, an HD Hyundai Electric official noted: “This agreement reflects our ability to meet the strict quality standards required by a global Big Tech company’s data centers and demonstrates the competitiveness of our distribution and power equipment.”
The official further added that the company plans to expand its presence in the sector by broadening customer-tailored package solutions across its product range, signaling continued focus on integrated infrastructure offerings for high-demand digital energy environments.
