HD Hyundai Electric, a renowned transformer manufacturer since 1978,  erected a new "smart" transformer factory in place of their old transformer facility in Ulsan in 2020. Even though transformer production usually requires human labour in assembly, this new plant is among the first to use an automated system, alleges factory management, which lead to quicker and higher-quality production.

The processes which used to require six workers, such as mounting the 0,2 mm laminated core layer up to 50,000 times, are now done using precise machines, while the transportation within the factory is done by rail-less cars and air cushions, instead of cranes and rails, which posed a significant safety hazard and was 70% slower.

This factory specializes in transformers of 500 MVA capacity, and is today in highest demand amont private and state-run power distibutors in the US, Europe, and the Saudi Arabia. In fact, this year they report having made deals amounting to USD 1,37 billion, which is their history record. As an example, Senior Vice President Kim Young-ki highlighted the recent business deal to supply transformers for an offshore wind farm in Europe, totalling to USD 60 million.

The company expects the demand for their products to remain high, due to the rising clean energy demand, and the exceptional quality of their products in comparison to competitors.
