GTC delivers power transformer for major solar project in Texas

GEORGIA -- Georgia Transformer Corporation (GTC) has completed the construction of a 280 MVA, 345 kV unit to be used in a major solar project in Texas.

The aim of the solar project is to generate renewable energy for metro Houston and the surrounding areas expected to power around 60,000 homes. The renewable power project covers over 5 sq mi and will house 1.4 million solar modules. 
For the purpose of the renewable energy project, Virginia Transformer's GTC team has manufactured a 280 MVA, 345 kV power transformer with a height of 24.5 ft, a length of 41.3 ft, a width of 34.5 ft, and a weight of 300 tons. The transformer is to be transported to a site in Texas.
GTC manufactures transformers with 525 kV voltage rating to tie the large solar and wind power generation into the national power grid.
