Giga Energy Opens New Houston Factory to Expand U.S. Transformer Production
Giga Energy has announced the launch of its new MV Houston Factory, a 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that will become the company’s primary U.S. production site for medium-voltage (MV) transformers.
Located in Houston, the center of the U.S. energy industry, the facility is scheduled to begin production in Q1 2026. Once fully ramped, the plant is expected to produce more than 3,000 transformers annually, representing approximately 15 gigawatts of capacity per year, addressing ongoing transformer supply constraints impacting grid expansion and new power projects.
The new factory will initially create 25 manufacturing jobs, with plans to grow to nearly 100 roles as production scales. The site incorporates advanced manufacturing technologies, including a terahertz drying oven, designed to improve transformer quality, consistency, and production cycle times.
According to Matt Lohstroh, Co-Founder and CEO of Giga Energy, the facility marks a significant milestone in the company’s U.S. manufacturing strategy by enabling faster delivery timelines and greater control over production quality.
The electrical infrastructure produced at the Houston facility will support data centers, artificial intelligence (AI) deployments, industrial operations, and renewable energy projects. The factory will also supply equipment for Giga Energy’s data center development pipeline, which includes more than 500 megawatts of planned capacity next year.
The MV Houston Factory expands domestic transformer manufacturing at a time when grid reliability and power infrastructure development are critical to meeting growing energy demand.
