Ghana Progresses Second Phase of Transformer Upgrade Programme in Accra
The Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd (ECG) has announced the completion of Phase One of the Government’s ongoing Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme at the Nmai Dzorn Primary Substation in Accra.
Following this milestone, the utility will proceed with Phase Two of the programme at the Lashibi Primary Substation, scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 14 April 2026 and conclude on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
According to ECG, the second phase will involve brief planned power outages in affected areas to allow for safe execution of works and ensure the protection of operational personnel. The company stated that outage schedules, including time blocks and affected groupings, will be shared through official communication channels.
ECG noted that measures have been put in place to minimise both the duration and impact of the outages. Customers have been advised to plan accordingly during the upgrade period.
The programme forms part of a broader government initiative aimed at strengthening electricity infrastructure, reducing system overloads, and improving overall reliability of supply across the network.
ECG expressed appreciation to the public for their patience and cooperation as the infrastructure improvement works continue.
